What it is:
A vibration plate is a piece of exercise equipment one stands on to send vibrations through the body. These vibrations cause dozens of micro contractions per second throughout the body stimulating many healthful benefits.
(Quick disclaimer: there are links to three different vibration plates within this review, all of which I have personally used. Hopefully the info in this review will help you determine which plate may be the best fit for you!)
Health Benefits:
Increased blood flow, lymphatic drainage, improved bone density and strength, alleviation of minor aches and pains, quicker injury recovery, fat loss support, and improved balance.
Vibration plates were researched and used regularly for both US astronauts and Russian cosmonauts. They were found to specifically address bone loss and muscles loss due to lack of gravitational force in space. The use of vibration plates extended the amount of time one could spend in space significantly. It is said that 10 minutes on a vibration plate is the equivalent of a 30-45 minute jog!
How I use it:
Upon waking in the morning, I use one of the preset ten-minute programs. I do the same at the end of the day.
How I found it:
A girlfriend of mine had one, and every time I visited her, I would use hers just for fun. I had already incorporated rebounding into my fitness repertoire specifically to support lymphatic health. I knew vibration plates could also help detox the body through improved lymphatic drainage, but at that time I had no idea of its other health benefits!
After I began using LifeWave patches, wearable infrared light therapy, I spoke with a client who had used infrared lamps directed at her belly followed by 30 minutes on a vibration plate 2-3 times per week to lose weight. She lost 30lbs and had kept it off years later. I thought, hmmmm! I should be able to replicate the same effect since I’m already doing light therapy 12 hours a day. That’s when I got serious about researching and purchasing a vibration plate for myself.
I borrowed my friend’s plate for a trial run. She had a Confidence brand plate. I fell in love with it! I loved all the jiggly it produced in my belly and thighs….it felt as if the more I jiggled, the more that jiggle would melt away! Of course, that’s not exactly how the vibrations work, but that is certainly how they felt!
Then I embarked on a research mission to determine the best vibration plate to purchase for myself. And that’s when I settled on the LifePro Rumblex Max. It not only has the pivotal oscillation vibration mode, but lateral vibration and pulsation as well! You can use each mode separately, any two simultaneously, or all three simultaneously, which is referred to as 4D vibration. All three vibrations together create a fourth vibration that moves your body in a spiral.
The 4D plate is supposedly the best technology that provides the most benefits. Although as I was researching, I found many opposing opinions as to which vibrations and whether more than one vibration at a time is more beneficial. There definitely are wide ranging opinions and some believe that combining vibrations is not as beneficial as using just one vibration mode at a time. Despite the lack of consensus, I imagine depending on your goal, one mode of vibration may be better than another.
Personally, I believe it is likely beneficial to use multiple vibrations and their different combinations. But I did SORELY miss the original Confidence Brand plate I used. As luck would have it, I had a client who wanted to upgrade her LifePro Trimlite pivotal oscillation plate to the one I purchased (the LifePro Rumblex Max), so I told her I’d be happy to take her old LifePro off her hands if she was willing to part with it! I keep that one at the gym and it does provide the beloved jiggly that I so enjoyed with my friend’s plate. I do not understand why the 4D plate doesn’t seem to provide the same level of oscillation when used on its own as does the cheaper one, but I’m just glad I get to benefit from both….4D vibrations in the morning and pivotal oscillation vibrations at the end of the day!
Why I use it:
As I’ve come to understand the level of toxicity in our environment, I’ve begun to focus on methods to detox the body daily. And because our bodies are naturally disposing of cellular waste as we sleep, I wanted to find an easy and affordable method to support lymphatic drainage upon waking in the morning. I had been using the rebounder, but I found that I was only fitting that in about 3 times per week. Now I keep the vibration plate in my bedroom, roll out of bed, and hop on the plate for good vibes. Easy peasy! It’s difficult to find an excuse to not make time for this enjoyable healthful habit!
