Magnesium is a macromineral and is often simply referred to as a mineral.  Microminerals are often referred to as trace minerals. The primary difference between the two is that your body needs more macrominerals than it does microminerals to function properly.  Once minerals are dissolved into the fluids of your body, they form positively charged ions known as electrolytes.  Magnesium is necessary for the structural integrity of bones and teeth, regulating contractility of the heart muscle, relaxing smooth muscle, decreasing coagulation of blood, metabolizing essential fatty acids, synthesizing protein, producing urea, and preventing kidney stones. How I use it:

I keep a bottle of Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil on my bedside table and apply the spray to the bottom of my feet before bedtime.  The bottom of your feet has the largest pores on your body and is therefore ideal for quickly absorbing into the body any substance you put on them.

How I found it:

I was doing a little research to find a high-quality food grade source of nose to tail nutrition (check the nutrition blog to learn more!) and learned about Ancestral Supplements.  I read about The Founder of the Company’s philosophy, way of life, and many of his own health habits and products that he uses to support his own health.  Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil was one of those products.  This resonated with me because I had learned through my Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Certification (NTP) with the Nutritional Therapy Association that many of us are deficient in Magnesium in large part due to our highly refined carbohydrate heavy diet prevalent in the U.S.  I loved the idea of magnesium oil because frankly, I do not have the best track record of keeping up with supplements, nor do I particularly enjoy popping pills of any kind!  I purchased a bottle and have used it nightly since!                      

Why I use it:

During a lecture on minerals to obtain my NTP certification, I learned that the body uses 42 molecules of Magnesium to detox one molecule of glucose!  Because the standard American diet is so heavy in refined carbohydrates, our stores of Magnesium are being significantly depleted for detoxification purposes.  This means that for many of us, we do not have adequate Magnesium to optimally carry out many Magnesium intensive processes throughout the body, which can undermine our overall health.  Magnesium deficiency can also be a contributing factor if you experience restless leg syndrome.  A spray of Magnesium Oil on each foot nightly is a super easy way to increase your Magnesium intake!
